The Witch’s Ultimate Guide to DIY Enchanted Divination Oils - Includes a Divination & Therapeutic Correspondence for Essential Oils, Herbs, & Crystals + Spells for Waxing & Waning Moons

Creation · Safety · Cycles · Sovereignty

Divination oils are signal amplifiers—designed to tune perception, stabilize trance, and support clear communication between mind, body, and unseen intelligence.

Because essential oils are potent plant concentrates, a witch works with them respectfully, cyclically, and intelligently.

What qualifies me to share this information? I am not a certified or registered aromatherapist. I did take an aromatherapy course from American College of Healthcare Sciences. My dilution, safety, therapeutic action, and contraindication information come from ACHS as you’ll see in the screenshots below. My information on the magical correspondences comes from extensive research - however, the physical safety information is far more important when using essential oils. Use too much of any essential oil for too long can cause constituent toxicity in the body. When you see ‘toxic constituent’ or ‘toxicity’ - that’s referring to what becomes toxic when too much is used or an oil is used for too long. As a general rule of thumb, never use any essential oil more than 3 times a day for 3 weeks at proper dilution (usually 1-2%) and dosing (usually a few drops of completed blend on 1-2 body areas like the wrists) amounts. I create my blends to be used for 2 weeks max and then switch to a blend of different oils with the same purpose. I also include a waxing and waning moon spell with each blend. More on that and on all the safety in the guide below.

CORE SAFETY PRINCIPLES (NON-NEGOTIABLE)

  • Always dilute essential oils in a carrier oil

  • Never exceed 2% dilution for adult topical use

  • Sensitive practitioners may prefer 1% or less

  • Avoid continuous use of the same blend longer than 3 weeks (I prefer 2)

  • Rotate blends to prevent sensitization and energetic stagnation

  • Patch test every new blend

  • Avoid eyes, mucous membranes, and broken skin

  • Do not ingest essential oils ever

  • Always check contraindications and safety info before using any essential oil (contraindications are provided here)

  • Pregnancy, epilepsy, asthma, blood pressure conditions, and medication interactions require extra caution

  • Always discuss new things with your trusted healthcare provider before using

  • Do not expose pregnant people, breastfeeding people, sick people, chronically ill people, elderly people, children, babies, or pets to essential oils without thought, care, and intention of their specific wellness needs and sensitivities.

Magic works best when the body feels safe.

BASE RECIPE TEMPLATE (2 oz bottle)

Carrier oil — 2 oz

  • Jojoba (stable, skin-like)

  • Sweet almond (light, traditional)

  • Fractionated coconut (neutral, long shelf life)

Essential oils — 3–12 drops total

  • 12 drops = 2% dilution (maximum recommended)

  • 9 drops = 1.5% dilution - consider using this dilution if you are sensitive and intend to add herbs to account for the very small amount of essential oil that gets extracted in that process

  • 6 drops = 1% dilution (standard for children with child-safe oils)

  • 3 = .5% dilution very gentle (sensitive individuals)

  • of course you can use only 1-2 drops if you are a highly sensitive person

Blend intentionally.

HOW TO MAKE THE OIL

  1. Choose a clean glass bottle (amber only, do not use cobalt as some essential oils break down the glass, do not use clear unless you can use a large enough label to keep the light out and store it in the dark - light is very damaging to most essential oils)

  2. Add intentionally chosen herbs and crystals from this guide (take up no more than 1/4-1/3 of the bottle) - for best results with the crystals, do refer to the “layering” section of the Crystals for Divination Guide in this Divination System spellbook section.

  3. Fill bottle halfway with carrier oil

  4. Then add intentionally chosen essential oils from this guide, counting drops carefully - for best results, choose a base note, middle note, and top note essential oil

  5. Add remaining carrier oil - very careful not to overfill

  6. Cap and roll gently between palms (do not shake aggressively)

  7. Label with:

    • Oils used

    • Date blended

  8. Enchant & sigil it. (for whatever reason, this text box is refusing to let this be number 7 and insists skipping 7 and becoming 8, what a fun glitch)

Anoint wrists, temples, back of neck, forearm, hair, or oil-safe tools—not the face, ears, or mucous membranes. You can say a spell according to if the moon is waxing or waning (see below)

🌑 BASE NOTE OILS

Anchoring · Protection · Trance Stability · Depth

🌳 Sandalwood — Base Note

Sandalwood — Temporal Expansion + Signal Cohesion

Use when: the reading requires holding many variables at once
Best for: complex spreads, multi-layer spirit dialogue, long sessions
How it shows up: time feels slower, answers interconnect instead of fragment
Modern note: ideal when a reading needs internal consistency across many cards or symbols
Why: Sandalwood was historically used to sustain prolonged contemplative states. Practically, it reduces cognitive jumping, allowing divinatory information to arrive as a coherent system rather than disjointed flashes.

🌿 Frankincense — Base Note

Frankincense — Emotional Dampening + Signal Prioritization

Use when: personal emotion or client emotion could interfere
Best for: client readings, confirmation questions, authority-based divination
How it shows up: answers feel neutral, clean, and unmistakable
Modern note: excellent for professional settings
Why: Frankincense was used to ritually neutralize space. In practice, it suppresses emotional noise so the most relevant signal rises to the top, which is why it performs so well when accuracy must override empathy bleed.

🌿 Myrrh — Base Note

Myrrh — Narrative Collapse + Threshold Clarity

Use when: the situation is crossing a point of no return
Best for: ancestor questions, endings, irreversible choices
How it shows up: stories drop away; the answer feels final
Modern note: not useful for exploratory readings
Why: Myrrh’s historical use in funerary and threshold rites conditions perception toward finality. In divination, it shuts down speculative narratives and reveals what has already concluded energetically.

I do not have an official monograph for Myrrh, this information is assumed:

🌲 Cedarwood — Base Note

Cedarwood — Somatic Anchoring + Physical Yes/No

Use when: mental imagery is unreliable
Best for: pendulum work, runes, body signals
How it shows up: truth registers as weight, tension, or posture
Modern note: stabilizes readers who drift or over-visualize
Why: Cedar has long been used to keep spirit work grounded. Practically, it shifts divination out of the imagination and into physical sensation, improving binary and embodied accuracy.

🌿 Patchouli — Base Note

Patchouli — Probability Collapse + Outcome Gravity

Use when: you want the most materially likely outcome
Best for: money, work, survival, long-term trajectories
How it shows up: one path feels heavier and more “real” than others
Modern note: premier oil for outcome-focused readings
Why: Patchouli’s fixative nature made it a staple in folk magic when results needed to stick. In divination, it collapses branching futures and highlights the path already carrying momentum in the physical world.

🌱 Vetiver — Base Note

Vetiver — Pace Regulation + Timing Truth

Use when: urgency is distorting perception
Best for: readiness, healing timelines, pacing decisions
How it shows up: answers arrive slowly but feel correct
Modern note: excellent when impatience is present
Why: Vetiver regulates nervous system overactivation. In practice, this removes false urgency from divination, allowing timing—not desire—to determine the answer.

🌿 Benzoin (Resin EO) — Base Note

Benzoin — Memory Access + Emotional Softening

Use when: information is stored emotionally rather than symbolically
Best for: dream work, ancestral memory, early-life patterns
How it shows up: images feel familiar, emotionally resonant
Modern note: works best when readings unfold over time
Why: Benzoin was historically burned to comfort and recall. It lowers psychological defenses, allowing emotionally encoded information to surface without resistance.

🌒 MIDDLE NOTE OILS

Best for: spirit dialogue, prayer-based divination, interrupted readings
How it shows up: communication resumes smoothly, fewer stalls or dropouts
Modern note: ideal when readings feel quiet, flat, or strangely muted
Why: Elemi was traditionally used alongside frankincense not for symbolism, but to keep resinous smoke flowing evenly. Practically, it improves transmission continuity—making it especially useful when spirit communication feels choppy or incomplete.

🌿 Bay Laurel (Bay Leaf) — Middle Note

bay leaves are on the right - the smooth almond-shaped leaves

Bay (Laurel) — Oracular Activation + Question Ignition

Use when: divination feels dormant or unresponsive
Best for: opening a session, asking the right question
How it shows up: sharper questions, faster response from the oracle
Modern note: excellent when cards feel dull or repetitive
Why: Bay was historically chewed or inhaled before prophecy, not after. Its function was to activate the oracle state itself—helping the diviner enter a receptive, alert condition where the future could be spoken at all.

🌿 Immortelle (Helichrysum) — Middle → Base Note

Immortelle (Helichrysum) — Pattern Recognition Across Time

Use when: the same scenario keeps repeating
Best for: karmic loops, recurring relationships
How it shows up: patterns become immediately obvious
Modern note: reveals why situations repeat, not just that they do
Why: Immortelle’s resistance to decay made it a symbol of continuity. In divination, it enhances recognition of repeating structures across time.

Notice this oil has to be rotated more often than two weeks on, two weeks off. For that reason, I recommend using this one occasionally like once or twice a week. Alternatively, you could use it for one week on and two weeks off.

🌺 Ylang Ylang — Middle Note

Ylang Ylang — Emotional Signal Amplification (Unfiltered)

Use when: emotional truth is being minimized or intellectualized
Best for: attraction, attachment, relational dynamics
How it shows up: feelings intensify and become undeniable

Bergamot — Emotional Modulation + Honest Self-Reading

Use when: emotions are present but overwhelming
Best for: self-readings, pattern awareness
How it shows up: feelings are visible without flooding
Modern note: stabilizes self-inquiry
Why: Bergamot balances mood rather than suppressing it, allowing emotional data to be read accurately instead of reacted to.

Neroli — Perceptual Narrowing + Signal Confidence

Use when: divination is too busy, symbolic, or over-imaginative
Best for: major life decisions, confirmation readings
How it shows up: fewer images, stronger certainty

Dried Herbs & Flowers to add (quantity not meant for medicinal/therapeutic use)

Juniper Berry (dried) — Gatekeeping + Source Verification

Use when: you need to know who is answering
Best for: spirit contact oils, scrying blends, boundary-setting jars
How it shows up: cleaner presence, clearer sense of origin
Modern note: safer and steadier than essential oil, ideal for long-term blends
Why: Dried juniper berries have been burned and carried to test spirits, not just cleanse space. In divination oils, they function as a quiet gatekeeper — anything deceptive weakens, anything legitimate remains.

Yarrow (flower or leaf) — Decision Sorting + Verdict Energy

Use when: a reading stalls between two viable options
Best for: yes/no oils, verdict moments, oracle confirmation
How it shows up: the reading stops elaborating and lands
Modern note: invaluable when spreads keep circling the same point
Why: Yarrow’s historical role in formal divination (notably the I Ching) trained perception toward resolution, not exploration. In oil blends, yarrow compresses the field until one option clearly dominates, ending ambiguity rather than interpreting it.

Calendula (petals) — Gentle Truth + Daylight Clarity

Use when: you want honest insight without emotional weight
Best for: daily pulls, general guidance
How it shows up: clear, straightforward answers
Modern note: ideal for everyday divination blends
Why: Calendula has traditionally been used for illumination and clear seeing. In divination oils, it promotes neutrality—truth without intensity.

…it is almost always oil-safe.

If it contains:

  • free metals

  • sulfides

  • carbonates

  • softness below Mohs 6

…it does not belong in oil.

for best results with the crystals, do refer to the “layering” section of the Crystals for Divination Guide in this Divination System spellbook section.

QUARTZ FAMILY

(Silicon dioxide — optically coherent, energetically neutral)
These govern clarity, organization, and interpretive mechanics.

Clear Quartz — Signal Amplification + Coherence Enforcement

Use when: the reading feels weak, inconsistent, or fragmented
Best for: general divination, multi-tool sessions
How it shows up: symbols connect; fewer “dead” pulls
Modern note: baseline crystal for any divination field
Why: Quartz amplifies and stabilizes signal without bias. In divination, it increases legibility — what is already present becomes clearer and more internally consistent.

Amethyst — Pattern Sorting + Interpretive Stability

Use when: information is present but difficult to interpret
Best for: tarot, layered symbolic systems
How it shows up: patterns resolve; interpretation slows and settles
Modern note: excellent when readings feel mentally scrambled
Why: Amethyst dampens cognitive overdrive. In practice, this prevents over-interpretation and allows symbolic data to organize into stable meaning.

Rose Quartz — Emotional Signal Buffering

Use when: emotion is influencing perception
Best for: relationship readings, self-inquiry
How it shows up: emotional information separates from emotional reaction
Modern note: prevents emotional distortion, not emotion itself
Why: Rose quartz moderates emotional charge. In divination, this makes feelings readable as data rather than noise.

Citrine — Interpretive Commitment + Decision Lock

Use when: insight keeps reopening instead of landing
Best for: decision confirmation, outcome reads
How it shows up: one interpretation holds
Modern note: useful when doubt loops
Why: Citrine reinforces confidence in interpretation. It does not change the message — it prevents endless reconsideration once clarity is reached.

Carnelian — Action Vector Detection

Use when: action vs inaction is unclear
Best for: “what will I actually do?” readings
How it shows up: motivation becomes obvious
Modern note: exposes avoidance cleanly
Why: Carnelian highlights drive and will. In divination, it reveals behavioral momentum rather than intention.

Agate (all colors) — Gradual Truth + Stability

Use when: situations are complex or unfolding slowly
Best for: long-term dynamics
How it shows up: answers emerge evenly over the spread
Modern note: prevents snap conclusions
Why: Agate’s banded structure mirrors incremental revelation. It supports steady interpretation instead of spikes of insight.

Chalcedony — Low-Volume Signal Integration

Use when: information is subtle or quiet
Best for: intuitive nudges, gentle guidance
How it shows up: faint impressions become noticeable
Modern note: ideal for sensitive diviners
Why: Chalcedony diffuses rather than amplifies signal, increasing sensitivity without increasing intensity.

Onyx — Boundary Enforcement + Reading Containment

Use when: readings bleed into each other
Best for: multiple sessions, heavy topics
How it shows up: each reading stays discrete
Modern note: excellent for professional diviners
Why: Onyx absorbs excess energetic bleed, preventing cross-contamination between questions or clients.

Sard — Truth Density + Grounding

Use when: answers feel evasive or abstract
Best for: serious, material questions
How it shows up: truth feels heavier and more concrete
Modern note: anchors interpretation
Why: Sard increases perceptual weight, pulling divination out of abstraction and into tangible reality.
